Updated: Mar 14, 2019

Garden State Rollergirls Recruitment Event February 16th:  New Jersey’s highest ranked roller derby team is looking for skaters. The Garden State Rollergirls (GSR) will be holding a First-Skate event for prospective Fresh Meat players on Saturday, February 16th at the Inline Skating Club of America in North Arlington at 9:00 am.

The First Skate event welcomes players of all ages and skill levels and provides a safe environment for newbies to learn the basics of roller derby under the guidance of Fresh Meat coordinators BlackEye Betty and Diem Zee.

Betty played for the Nor’Easters in the first Roller Derby Junior Olympics in 2016 and has been with GSR since 2017.  Diem is a graduate of the 2015 GSR Fresh Meat program and currently plays for the Brick City Bruisers.

“Our Fresh Meat class is really a unique experience where you not only get in better shape while building the foundations for roller derby, but you also develop some amazing friendships along the way,” said Diem.

Anyone interested in attending the First Skate event must be 18 or older and should email gsrrecruit@gmail.com to sign up. The cost is $10 per person and loaner gear is available upon request.

The Inline Skating Club is located at 170 Schuyler Avenue in North Arlington, New Jersey.

Garden State Rollergirls are New Jersey’s premier all-women flat track roller derby league, consisting of approximately 40 skaters. The league has two traveling teams and three home teams. GSR is in Division 2 of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
